After university in Chile, Cristian began a career as a journalist in El Mercurio, the most influential newspaper in Santiago. He wrote extensively on architecture, cities and urbanism and had his own page in the property section of the Sunday newspaper, which he also edited.
Twenty years ago he moved to London as the Cultural Attaché to the Chilean Embassy. He met and collaborated with artists and designers from all over the world and participated in important international arts and design events, like ’The London Design Fair’, ‘100% Design,’ and ‘Tent’. He was also involved in the first London Design Biennale.
Prior to Léon & Croft, Cristian renovated several houses from different periods. He recently moved to Dublin to work on the restoration of a Georgian townhouse. While immersing himself in the world of fine and decorative arts, complementing courses he took in Christie’s Auction house in London, with a Diploma in Fine and Decorative Arts from IPAV in Dublin, he met his business partner Jean Flitcroft, and Léon & Croft was born.
Jean has always had a passion for knowledge, a desire to understand the world both in scientific terms as well cultural and artistic. She has a science degree from UCD, a doctorate from Oxford University and a masters in the creative writing from Trinity College Dublin.
The years spent in Magdalen College, one of the most beautiful of the university, with buildings dating from 15th Century, she believes laid the foundations for her love architecture and interiors.
Since then she has achieved great success both as a writer and designer. An author of children’s books, published in Ireland and USA, she has also created an amazing range of interiors for her portfolio of properties in Europe and Central America. More recently a diploma in Fine and Decorative Arts in IPAV, design courses in Central St Martins and Chelsea College of Art, London, led Jean to team up with Cristian in the Léon and Croft design consultancy.
Jean’s eye for colour, together with a team of decorators (Ian Keenan), recently resulted in one of Léon and Croft’s projects winning gold in the residential category of 36th Annual Johnstone Trade Award.
